Albasty is a dangerous, changeable presence in regional Turkic narratives, associated with childbirth, stolen breath and oppressive encounters at night.
Albasty
Also recorded as Албасты, Albastı, Alpastă
Albasty can appear as a long-haired figure, an animal carrying stolen lungs toward water, or a presence pressing upon a sleeper. Kazakh, Kyrgyz and Volga-region accounts give these encounters different forms; recognition and escape are part of their stories. [1][2][5]
