A field guide to the extraordinary
Alux
Yucatec Maya traditions · Milpa and local guardian accounts
Also recorded as Aluxo’ob, Arux, Aruxo’ob
Alux accounts concern small uncanny presences associated with fields, settlements, older objects and obligations of care in Yucatec Maya contexts. Early outsiders emphasized mischief and fear; contemporary locally situated research also records guardianship and reciprocal relationships. These emphases should be read together without making one a universal description. [1][3][4]
