Chimera
Greek epic · Greek genealogical poetry · Greek mythography · Greek victory poetry · Etruscan art
Also recorded as Chimaera, Χίμαιρα
A lion advances with a goat rising from its body and a serpent at its rear. The Chimera carries fire inside an impossible anatomy: a creature of Lycian narrative whose defeat becomes a test of the hero Bellerophon, and whose image survives in strikingly varied ancient art. [1][3][5]
