A field guide to the extraordinary
Cyclops
Ancient Greek epic · Greek pastoral and dramatic literature · Roman literary and visual reception
Also recorded as Cyclopes, Kyklopes, Polyphemus
A single eye joins beings who otherwise differ profoundly: divine craftsmen, a dangerous shepherd, an unhappy lover and the imagined builders of immense walls. Cyclops is a family of ancient literary and visual identities. Polyphemus is its best-known individual, but his cave does not contain the whole tradition. [1][2][7][4]
