Goetia 1904
Agares follows Baëll in Scot’s inventory as the first duke of the East. The old man, crocodile and hawk already appear in this earlier account, together with thirty-one legions and membership in the order of Virtues. The 1904 description identifies the bird more specifically as a goshawk. [2][1]
Agares teaches languages and reverses the direction of movement: runaways return, while people who stand still flee. Earthquakes and the overthrow of spiritual and temporal dignities extend his office to the land and its authorities. These disruptive powers follow Scot’s identification of him as the first duke of the East. [2][1]
