Purpose in the text
The third Jupiter pentacle protects the person invoking spirits. When the spirits appear, showing the figure is said to secure their immediate obedience. [1]
The diagram and its inscriptions
A quartered circle combines divine names with two smaller Jupiter-related seals. Mathers identifies IHVH, Adonai, the seal of Jupiter and the seal of Jupiter’s intelligence; the rim is Psalm 125:1. [1]
Reading the design
The divided circle brings the seal of Jupiter and the seal of its intelligence into the same field as IHVH and Adonai. Around them, Psalm 125:1 compares trust in IHVH with Mount Zion, which cannot be moved. The verse gives the protective purpose a precise image of stability, while the smaller seals identify the planetary authority being addressed. [1]
