Purpose in the text
War, wrath, discord and hostility are listed together in the third notice. The pentacle also resists enemies and terrifies rebellious spirits, with its authority attributed to the expressly written names of the all-powerful God. [1]
The diagram and its inscriptions
Crossing triangles surround a central Vau within a scriptural band. Mathers identifies Eloah and Shaddai, and Psalm 77:13. [1]
Reading the design
The central Vau is interpreted by Mathers as the signature of the Qabalistic Microprosopus. Eloah and Shaddai accompany it, while Psalm 77:13 asks who is so great a God. The divine comparison in the verse supports the notice’s emphasis on overwhelming authority, and its hostility is expressed as one consequence of that authority. [1]
