Purpose in the text
Victory in war is the direct purpose of the fourth Mars notice. The preceding design lists a wider range of martial effects—anger, discord and resistance to enemies—while this one concentrates on victory. [1]
The diagram and its inscriptions
A broad cross distributes names inside a circular verse. The editor reads AGLA in the center, IHVH on the sides and El above and below; the rim is Psalm 110:5. [1]
Reading the design
AGLA occupies the centre, with IHVH to either side and El above and below. Psalm 110:5 surrounds this balanced arrangement with an image of kings wounded in the day of divine wrath. The diagram concentrates names at the centre; the verse expands their claimed force into the battlefield and the overthrow of rulers. [1]
