Finding Passages and Figures
A precise locator brings an entry back to its words and image. Spirit numbers, planetary ordinals, figure numbers and manuscript folios each provide a different route through the sources. [1][2][3][4]
From a name to its notice
For a Goetic spirit, begin with the numbered notice in the 1904 catalogue. It brings appearance, office and legions together. The classified list on printed pages 32–33 offers a second route through rank, while the collective vessel account follows the catalogue on page 31. Apparatus captions identify the figures that belong outside the individual notices. [1]
From an ordinal to a plate
For a Mathers pentacle, find its planet and ordinal in Book I chapter XVIII, then follow the figure number to the plate. This allows the words and image to be read together. The sixth Moon pentacle shows why both locators matter: its notice closes the lunar sequence on page 70, but figure 54 appears later on Plate XIII.
