Saturn’s seven black pentacles range from spirits kneeling before divine names to an earth shaken by angelic orders. Protection, treasure and directed affliction share this planetary series. [1]

The members of this set
Source reproduction Mathers 1889, figure 11, plate II.
The first two Saturn pentacles restrain spirits through letter squares; the third belongs to nocturnal invocation. The fourth is assigned ruin, destruction and death, while the fifth protects the night-time invoker and disperses treasure guardians. The sixth directs demonic obsession against a person. In the seventh, the scale widens from a threatened individual to the trembling earth. [1]
Names arranged in space
The first square gathers four divine names: IHVH, ADNI, IIAI and AHIH. The second enlarges the square to twenty-five cells and prompts Mathers’s comparison with SATOR, together with his numerical interpretation of the letters. Wheels in the third and sixth direct attention toward their terminal Saturnian characters. Triangles dominate the fourth and seventh; the fifth nests cross, circle and diamond. Repeated geometries do not produce identical offices: the two wheels, for example, accompany invocation and affliction. [1]
The language of power
The first two rims use Psalm 72, moving from enemies kneeling to dominion reaching from sea to sea. The fourth combines the declaration of divine unity in Deuteronomy 6:4 with a curse imagined as entering flesh and bones in Psalm 109:18. The seventh gathers nine angelic orders, written in ordinary Hebrew and Passing of the River characters, inside Psalm 18:7. Its shaking earth and moving foundations give a scriptural form to the earthquake attributed to the pentacle. [1]
